A ceremony will be held to induct a new class of Lamar University Ambassadors from 5:30-7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16 in the Price Auditorium at Lamar University, with President Dr. Jaime Taylor giving opening remarks and presenting red blazers to each new Ambassador.

According to LU Director of Alumni Affairs Shannon Copeland Figueroa, the inaugural blazer ceremony will be a rite of passage for the Ambassadors – a program established in 2009 – to convey how special it is to be chosen as an official representative of Lamar University and the responsibility that position entails.

“The red blazers are a symbol of hospitality and professionalism,” Figueroa said. “Lamar University Ambassadors have a rich tradition of promoting service to Lamar University and to the community at large. Ambassadors represent the Lamar University student body at official university events and work to promote university pride among students, prospective students, alumni and friends of Lamar University.”

After a rigorous application process, 18 out of 40 applicants were chosen for the 2022-23 cohort. Once selected and sworn in as a Lamar University Ambassador, they hold that position for life.

“We consider them to be Ambassadors for life, continuing to use what they have learned to be active alumni and represent LU in their respective communities, promoting all LU has to offer,” Figueroa said.

Following the red blazer ceremony, a reception will be held, reports the university.
