Motiva advances Gift of Life Healthcare Services for Southeast Texas Women

Through the generous support of Motiva, more than 30 medically underserved Southeast Texas women recently received free Gift of Life clinical breast exams and mammograms on the UTMB mobile van located at the West Side Development Center in Port Arthur, as well as preventative healthcare screenings, including blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol, provided in partnership with the Port Arthur Health Department.

Motiva representatives attended the site to warmly greet clients.

“It is an honor and privilege to team up with the Gift of Life to help women in our community,” said Motiva Communications Manager Arlene LeBlanc. “It sometimes is the only opportunity some women have to get a mammogram. Motiva considers it a blessing to be able to participate in this worthy cause.”

Since 2000, Motiva has annually sponsored Gift of Live van sites, making available nearly 600 free mammograms and clinical breast exams and helping extend the lives of women whose breast cancer was detected at Motiva-sponsored screenings and were navigated through treatment.

A true champion of the Gift of Live’s cause, Motiva also supports the organization’s Prostate Cancer Program, helping to provide free prostate cancer screenings to thousands of medically underserved men. With the support of Motiva and other generous donors, the Gift of Life has helped extend the lives of more than 275 Southeast Texans who have been diagnosed with breast or prostate cancer and treated through its efforts.

In 2010, Motiva was awarded the Gift of Life’s prestigious Corporate “Spirit of Love” Award to honor its outstanding community leadership and commitment to the Gift of Life’s mission of saving lives through the provision of essential cancer education and free healthcare services for medically underserved individuals.

Motiva and the Gift of Life’s long-standing community partnership also includes compassionate company team members who volunteer their time at van sites to facilitate care and concern for each client.

“Motiva is so proud to again sponsor the Gift of Life mammogram van,” said Motiva Communications Advisor Beth Miller. “It serves a great purpose in the lives of Port Arthur women.”

Motiva’s generous support of Gift of Life preventative healthcare initiatives greatly enhances the community’s health and well-being.
