TxDOT awards contracts for $8M in Jefferson Co. projects

The Texas Transportation Commission has awarded more than $8 million in contracts for three projects in Jefferson County. The funds were awarded Wednesday, July 13, at the Texas Transportation Commission Meeting in Austin.

Richard Industrial Group donates to local charities

In check presentations on consecutive days – Thursday, July 21, and Friday, July 22 – Richard Industrial Group Foundation donated a total of $6,000 to two local charities. The foundation donated $2,000 to the 100 Club of Southeast Texas, a nonprofit that pays financial death benefits to the spouses and/or surviving dependent children of fallen first responders, and $4,000 to Adaptive Sports for Kids (ASK), a Nederland-based nonprofit that provides year-round sporting opportunities for children and young adults with disabilities.

Beaumont nursing home earns national honor for quality of care

Summer Place Nursing and Rehabilitation earned national honors for demonstrating its commitment to improving the quality of care for seniors and persons with disabilities.
The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living awarded the 2016 Bronze – Commitment to Quality Award to Summer Place Nursing and Rehabilitation, who achieved the first of three distinctions possible through the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program.
This program, which began in 1996, honors long-term and post-acute care providers across the nation.

Local students embrace challenges of chemistry at BASF Science Academy

Cody Sasser of Port Neches-Groves High School and Winston Hung of West Brook High School jumpstarted their college experience and learned the business of chemistry at the sixth annual BASF Science Academy. Sasser and Hung were among 20 high school seniors from around the nation that attended the academy.
