Local students embrace challenges of chemistry at BASF Science Academy

Cody Sasser of Port Neches-Groves High School and Winston Hung of West Brook High School jumpstarted their college experience and learned the business of chemistry at the sixth annual BASF Science Academy. Sasser and Hung were among 20 high school seniors from around the nation that attended the academy.

Calder Woods campus expansion under way

Construction crews at Calder Woods are maintaining a fast pace as work continues on a $25.9 million, 80,000-square-foot expansion at the Beaumont senior living community. Dallas-based Hill & Wilkinson is the main contractor for the project.
“Our general contractor updates me regularly on the project’s progress,” said Executive Director Ben Mazzara. “He tells me that work is pretty much on schedule, except for some delays caused by the rain. We hope to have new apartments ready for occupancy by late 2017.”

Monday, Aug. 1, Gofer Delivery Enterprises announced the official expansion of its time-saving personal assistant app “Gofer” to Southeast Texas. Residents of the area may now place restaurant and eventually grocery, liquor and dry cleaning orders from their smart phones or computers and have them delivered to their doorstep.

Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Fourth Annual ‘Break a Clay For MDA’

Southeast Texas businesses, hunters, and individuals are invited to participate in “Break a Clay for MDA”, a sporting-clay event. Five-person teams are $600. The event is at the 1-in-100 Gun Club, 1228 FM 421 Road in Lumberton Saturday, Aug. 6. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m., and flight choices are 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
