Site prep begins for largest methanol plant in United States

After unveiling plans for construc­tion of the largest methanol plant in the United States in November 2013, Nat­gasoline LLC and parent company OCI N.V. report site preparation in Beaumont is underway and on schedule for startup in early 2017.

According to the company, OCI N.V. is a global nitrogen-based fertilizer pro­ducer and engineering and construction contractor based in the Netherlands but operating globally. OCI N.V. reportedly employs more than 75,000 people in 35 countries worldwide.

Emeritus at Dowlen Oaks receives new name as part of Brookdale merger

Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames and Brookdale Dowlen Oaks Executive Director Arthur Berry cut the ribbon to celebrate the merger between Brookdale Senior Living Inc. and Emeritus Corporation.

Emeritus at Dowlen Oaks held a ribbon cutting and rebranding celebration to recognize the senior living facility’s new name, Brookdale Dowlen Oaks, on Tuesday, March 24.

The merger between Brookdale Senior Living Inc. and Emeritus Corpora­tion creates the first national senior living solutions company and transforms Brookdale into the only national full-spectrum senior living solutions com­pany, with over 1,150 communities in 46 states, covering 80 percent of the U.S. population and serving more than 110,000 residents.

Changing of the guard as appraisal district preps for busy season

Retiring chief appraiser Roland Beiber takes a stroll down memory lane.

“The rolls didn’t exist,” Jefferson County Appraisal District (JCAD) Chief Appraiser Roland Bieber told the Business Journal of his beginning in an office that would span more than 30 years. “We pretty much drew (by hand) this whole thing up from scratch.”

On Bieber’s last day in office before he entered retirement, he sat down with the Journal to tell the story of just how the appraisal district came to be – and where he hopes it continues to progress in the future.

Coastal Welding Supply names new sales directors

Jim Smith and Gary Sztaba have accepted the new positions of Directors of Sales for Coastal Welding Supply, the company announced in a March 6 press release.

Coastal Welding Supply’s outside sales teams will be under the direction of Smith who joined the second generation welding supply  and industrial and specialty gas company in 2007, and 14-year veteran, Gary Sztaba will head up the inside sales teams.
