BASF and TOTAL’s “Miracle Match for Life” raises $110,000 for three area charities

Representatives from BASF and TOTAL presented checks from funds raised at the 2015 Miracle Match for Life golf tournament to representatives of the Gulf Coast Marrow Donor Program, LifeShare Blood Centers and the Julie Rogers “Gift of Life” Program on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at LifeShare Blood Centers.

Orange County, city cut EDC Funding

At a meeting July 27, the Orange County Commissioners voted to withhold funding from the Orange County Economic Development Corporation, which the court indicated would essentially shut down the county EDC. But on Aug. 3, County Judge Brint Carlton suggested that there is still hope the EDC could continue its work drumming up future investments for the county, at least in some capacity.

Merchants of the future try their hand as ‘business owners’ at Central Mall

Central Mall hosted young entrepreneurs during its fourth annual Kids Inc. Day on Saturday, July 25, when young people between the ages of 6 and 15 set up their own “stores” in Central Mall’s Grand Court to learn about business, make money, and most of all, have fun.

Altus hopes to open hospice facility by spring 2016

Progress on the latest Altus Hospice Beaumont development can be seen from College Street as construction continues on the 36,000-square-foot complex.

The Gardens, Altus’s newest hospice inpatient unit, will feature a three-story facility with an adjacent shell space for potential growth. According to Rachel Babb, executive director and administrator at Altus Hospice Beaumont, The Gardens is slated to open in spring 2016 with 16 beds.
