Monthly sales tax revenue tops $977 million

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced he would be sending cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose districts $977.2 million in local sales tax allocations for April, 12.8% more than in April 2022. These allocations are based on sales made in February by businesses that report tax monthly.

In Jefferson County, three of the nine cities saw a drop in their allocations from April 2022.

Port Arthur’s allocation dropped from 21.63%, from $2.12 million to $1.66 million. The city’s year-to-date (YTD) allocation amount is $7.353 million.

Groves saw a 29.53% increase in its allocation from April 2022, from $177,236 to $229,578. The city’s YTD amount is $953,223.

Beaumont’s $3.698 million allocation was 7.38% higher than in the same period in 2022 with a YTD total of $16.758 million.

Nederland will receive $459,908 (+0.04%); Port Neches, $181,679 (6.04%); Bevil Oaks, $7,805 (+9.21%); Nome, $7,067 (+16.68%); and China $6,841 (–0.28%).

In Hardin County, Lumberton’s allocation is $384,904, up from $342,105 (12.51%) for same period last year. The city’s YTD total is $1.67 million.

Silsbee had a 5.47% increase ($249,553) in allocation from the previous year amount of $236,605, with a YTD total of $1.41 million.

Kountze will receive a $51,678 allocation, a 16.45% increase from the same period in 2022. The city’s year-to-date payments are $244,816, down from $272.684 (–10.21%) the same time last year. Sour Lake saw a 37.1% decline in allocation for April, from $134,637 to $84,677. Their YTD total is $440,863.

In Orange County, the city of Orange recorded an increase in allocation, from $544,646 (+33.53%) in 2022 to $727,297. Their YTD amount is $2.8 million. Pine Forest had a 51.03% increase in its allocation from April 2022. This period’s allocation is $13,132, up from $8,694.

Other municipalities receiving allocations are Vidor ($268,704/+11.24%), Bridge City ($158,468/+6.89%), West Orange ($112,324/+10.03%), Pinehurst ($55,786/+8.52%) and Rose City ($16,624/–8.5%).
