Texas physicians inject billions into state economy

Physicians add opportunity, growth, and prosperity to the Texas economy by creating 670,172 jobs and generating $117.9 billion in state economic activity, according to a new report, The Economic Impact of Physicians in Texas, released today by the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA).

Retail sales grow 4.9 percent in 2017 holiday season

Mastercard SpendingPulse reported Tuesday, Dec. 26, that holiday sales increased 4.9 percent this year, setting a new record for dollars spent. This is the largest year-over-year increase since 2011 and a further indication of consumer confidence. Online shopping also saw large gains of 18.1 percent compared to 2016, boosted by a late season rally.

The SpendingPulse report details holiday shopping from Nov. 1 through Dec. 24 and covers retail sales across all payment types, including cash and check.
