Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce calls on Congress to pass hurricane relief package

Today, the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce announced it has officially called on Congress to pass a new appropriations bill to help Texas recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey.

H.R. 4667, the federal hurricane relief bill, which passed the House of Representatives on December 21, 2017, is now awaiting a Senate vote and must be passed in January to help the state.

It has been over 120-days since Texas faced the largest rain fall incident in America’s history, yet the needed funding for repairs and resilience projects have not reached the state.

Walmart to increase employee starting wage to $11 an hour, expand benefits

Walmart announced plans to increase the starting wage rate for all hourly associates in the U.S. to $11, expand maternity and parental leave benefits and provide a one-time cash bonus for eligible associates of up to $1,000. The company, which made the announcement Thursday, Jan. 11,  is also creating a new benefit to assist associates with adoption expenses. The combined wage and benefit changes will benefit the company’s more than one million U.S. hourly associates.
