$137,000 going to 5 area nonprofits

The Southeast Texas Emergency Relief Fund (SETERF) presented checks to five nonprofit organizations Thursday, May 31 at the office of Edgar, Kiker & Cross PC in Beaumont.

The nonprofits receiving checks totaling $137,000 will provide nutrition and medical assistance for residents in Jefferson, Hardin and Orange counties.

The organizations include Nutrition and Services for Seniors, $20,000; Orange Community Action, $22,000; Gulf Coast Health Center, Inc.: $25,000; Legacy Community Health, $15,000; and SETX Food Bank, $55,000.

Huntsman STEM Innovation Prize Grant

Children are the future, so why not invest in them? Well, Huntsman did just that by awarding the 2018 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Innovation Prize Grant to local Teachers. The recipients included Katherine Whitney and Susan Ellis, Nederland Central Middle School teachers, and Selena Hennigan, a teacher at Orangefield High School. Both schools will be receiving $3,000 from the Huntsman STEM Innovation Grant Program.
