Cristian Bahrim, LU professor, returns from conference in Dalian, China

Cristian Bahrim, associate professor of physics at Lamar University, was a guest speaker at the “3rd Annual Conference and EXPO of AnalytiX2014” in the Dalian Hi-tech Industrial Zone, Dalian, China, April 25-28.

The conference brought together guest speakers from more than 40 countries, including 9 Nobel Laureates in physics, chemistry, physiology and medicine.

The five-day event began with World DNA and Genome Day and included festivities for opening the Bio Valley, which the Chinese envision as the new Silicon Valley for research in genetics, Bahrim said.

Lamar University taps Juan Zabala to head advancement division

Juan Zabala has been named vice president for university advancement, Lamar University officials announced Friday, June 6. He will continue in his role as chief executive officer of the Lamar University Foundation.

"With Juan’s 27 years of experience in higher education, many of those dedicated to advancement, he was a natural selection from a highly competitive pool of applicants,” says LU President Kenneth Evans. "He has my every confidence as he envisions the Office of Advancement's future and the integral part it will play within the growth of our university.”
