Orange County EDC, Chamber partner on Industrial Exchange

The Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce and the Orange County Economic Development Corporation are collaborating to host the 2018 Industrial Exchange on Thursday, August 16 at Lamar State College Orange Cypress Center. The half-day event will connect industry representatives, Southeast Texas contractors and service providers in an effort to further local initiatives to employ, purchase and work local.

“This event is not so much a job fair as it is an industrial networking opportunity to connect local suppliers and contractors with opportunities locally,” Hill told The Business Journal. “The procurement process can be difficult for smaller firms. This event will help nurture the relationships between local businesses and industry.”

“This is the first Industrial Exchange event,” she continued. “The Chamber and EDC have worked cooperatively on other efforts to grow Orange County and have discussed this particular event for over a year. The timing was finally right for us to jointly focus our efforts.”

The day will begin at 9 a.m., when attendees from the industrial contracting, services and products sectors will engage in a brief exchange with exhibiting facility representatives.

Registrants will be allowed to introduce their offerings and ask questions related to the needs of the facility and how local resources may serve the industries of Southeast Texas. Registrants are encouraged to keep their comments brief and schedule follow-up meetings with the facilities in attendance.

A lunch panel discussion will consist of Southeast Texas industry leaders with announced plans to expand their facilities and operations. Representatives include Ed Barr, mill manager at International Paper and Mark Viator, government relations and public affairs at Jefferson Energy Companies,.

“We have received an overwhelming support from the community just with the save the date,” Hill said. “Participating in the planning and some that have committed to participate in the event are Gopher Industrial, International Paper, Oldcastle Materials and Jefferson Energy.”

Hill added that there is limited seating available and she is hoping to attract around 75-100 participants.

Individuals may register for $25.00 at orangetexaschamber.org beginning. Please call the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce at (409) 883-3536, or Orange County Economic Development Corporation at (409) 883-7770, with questions.
