Harbor Hospice to open new in-patient facility in Jasper

Harbor Hospice is expanding its footprint to the Jasper area. The hospice care provider is building a new, 13,367-square-foot in-patient facility at 1440 FM 777 in Jasper.

According to the Harbor Hospice, construction began in January 2017 and is expected to be completed this spring. The contractor for the job is BEGA Design + Construction out of Houston. According to the city of Jasper, the cost of the project is $600,000.

"Harbor has been serving patients in the Jasper area for almost a decade. We are very excited and honored for this opportunity to better serve those patients and establish a deeper connection with the community through our newest inpatient facility. Harbor is a beacon of light to families who are struggling with the responsibilities of end of life care," said Dr. Qamar Arfeen, CEO of Harbor Healthcare System.

Harbor Healthcare System spokesperson Nicole Morris added the following via email correspondence, “Harbor Hospice is dedicated to providing care and comfort to a terminally ill patient and their family. We provide the highest quality of care possible by employing a team of healthcare professionals to administer comfort and supportive care to individuals. We strive to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs of patients and family members who share the emotional trauma of a terminal illness.

“We provide services to the terminally ill in their home, wherever home may be. There are times when caring for a loved one at home is simply not possible. When symptoms cannot be managed at home, or when families are having difficulty coping with an in-home death, Harbor Hospice's inpatient facility will provide care in a warm, homelike setting. The beautiful, serene, inpatient facility will offer the comfort of home while providing round-the-clock, expert medical care. Our Jasper Inpatient Facility will be the fifth Inpatient Care Facility.”
