BBB Serving Southeast Texas to hold anniversary event for Torch Award winners Sept. 8

The 20th annual BBB Serving Southeast Texas Torch Awards is set for Friday, Sept. 8, at Ford Park.
Dubbed “Light Up The Night With Torch,” this year’s event will honor 20 years of past winners including nonprofits, and small and large businesses.
“The Torch Awards is our premier programming to recognize businesses for ethics and what they’re doing in the local market,” said Liz Fredrichs, president of the BBB Serving Southeast Texas.
“We are going to have some great businesses being recognized at the event,” Fredrichs continued. “We are going to have a short program that includes our past winners and what was the benefit to them for going through the whole Torch program. We’re going to highlight those companies and what they do differently. Most companies say it’s an (involved) application process and it’s not that easy to win a Torch Award, so they really begin to see how their implementing programming internally and whether they are meeting certain criteria for leadership and how they treat their vendors. It’s kind of this internal look they don’t normally do.”
Funds raised from the event are used for scholarships for students at Lamar University, Lamar Institute of Technology, Lamar State College – Orange, and Lamar State College Port Arthur, Fredrichs said.
“It’s also an opportunity to support the local BBB and our students,” she said. “We really recognize students who are going through leadership programs at universities.”
The event, which will be held from 6-10 p.m., will feature a silent auction and entertainment from the band Champagne Room and comedian Chad Prather, who has been featured on Fox & Friends, Southern Living, MSN and Nash Country Weekly.
“This year it’s going to be a party,” Fredrichs said.
Dress is “boots and bling,” and dinner will be prepared by Chef Brad Breaux.
Tickets are $85 and sponsorships are available from $750-$5,000.
No new winners will be named this year, as the criteria for award winners are changing, according to Fredrichs.
“BBBs have launched a new BBB Center for Character Ethics to house all of our ethics training and award programming which BBB SE Texas will be joining in 2017,” she said. “To align with the Center for Character Ethics, BBB Serving Southeast Texas is reorganizing the Torch Award program and unveiling new criteria as part of our celebration.
“The criteria has changed, so that a company would have to demonstrate that they intentionally implement what we call the six trust principles. So, it’s going to be a little bit different. … Next year we will roll out the new Torch Awards.”
